The prestigious American publication Wine Enthusiast gave Godelia Rosé 91 points in its latest tasting edition.

This single varietal Mencía by Godelia under the protection of the Bierzo DO won over the Wine Enthusiast’s tasting panel, who described it as follows: ‘Aromas of grapefruit, peach and coffee bean set the stage for flavors of honeydew melon, peach and strawberry interlaced with notes of sage and white pepper. The finish is a delightful combination of bright fruit and dried-herb flavors’.

The recently released 2021 vintage of Godelia Rosé (production limited to 4,000 bottles) comes from 60-year-old Mencía vines grown in soils with a mixture of fine elements, quartzite, and slate at an altitude of 1,600 to 2,300 feet above sea level.

The strict and meticulous selection of the grapes in the vineyard is transformed in a manual harvest in 33 lb boxes. On arrival at the winery, the grapes are sorted manually, gently destemmed, and briefly macerated in vats. The saignée method is then used on the Mencía first must. Static racking of the must for 24 hours and fermentation in stainless steel tanks at 15ºC.

Godelia Rosé is one of the winery’s most unique wines. Its apparent simplicity hides an experimental work in constant evolution year after year.
