James Suckling, who was recently considered by Forbes magazine as one of the most influential wine critics in the world, states that our Viernes wine is a beautiful Bierzo with notes of blackberries, blueberries, earth, violets and graphite. It is medium-bodied with calcareous tannins and bright acidity.
This statement was made after his last wine tasting and evaluation, in which the American tasted and evaluated wines chosen by him from different wine regions of the world. Viernes, in its 2020 vintage, it was recognized after Suckling’s tasting with 93 points, which places it one more year in the Top of the best-rated Mencía.
The wine critic also considers that Viernes is a fresh, fruity and juicy wine with a silky texture and a succulent finish. Ready to drink now or also to enjoy in a while.
Viernes is the reflection of our freshest and most carefree Mencía del Bierzo. After a meticulous selection in vines of about 30 years on average settled on clayey soils and pebbles, we carry out the manual harvest of the bunches.
In the winery we carry out a gentle destemming after manual selection at the table and vinification in stainless steel tanks of 150 hl. Controlled fermentation at 25 ºC. Pigeage and pumping over according to extraction potential. On Viernes we ferment and macerate the skins between 12 and 15 days. After vinification, the wine rests for four months on its fine lees before being bottled.
The new 2020 vintage thus grows with the recognition of one of the most influential critics in the world, who once again gives great scores to our elaborations, which makes us continue, if possible, with greater motivation in our work of making wines. authentic in our region, El Bierzo.
