“This vintage (Bierzo) was marked by intense heat waves and severe drought in the summer months.
The abnormally dry season (only 10 inches of rainfall so far this year) has forced us to rethink viticulture in our race towards a more sustainable cultivation model, not pruning leaves, changing how plant cover is managed, general cutting back, etc.

The positive side of this weather situation is the health of the plants: we haven’t had any cryptogamic diseases and we ended the season with very few phytosanitary treatments.

Close to the harvest, ripening appeared somewhat irregular, again due to the high temperatures, although the light rainfall in August and September helped to overcome the situation and to get the plants on their way.

Now with the grapes harvested and all the grapes in the winery, we can confidently say that we’ve had a plentiful and very healthy harvest.
We’ve returned to the full-bodied, silky Godellos of two years ago, which benefit from the lees and time in bottle.
The young reds are highly aromatic, fresh, and fruity, and the ones from old vines are highly concentrated and well suited for ageing.
This year we also have some surprises up our sleeves, and some new creations. More on that in a few months”.
